Argo and the Culture of Iran: Awesome Author and Free Movie!

Join Fountaindale Public Library as we bring you the best in books and movies!

On Thursday August 1, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., Chicago author Libby Hellmann will be joining us to discuss her book, A Bitter Veil, a compelling psychological thriller set during the Iranian Revolution.  A book signing will follow the discussion and light refreshments will be provided.  Copies of A Bitter Veil will also be available for purchase.

Following the book discussion and signing, there will be a free screening of Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning film based on Antonio Mendez and Matt Baglio’s book, Argo: How the CIA and Hollywood Pulled Off the Most Audacious Rescue in History, which documents the little-known story of how a CIA officer enlisted Hollywood in a plan to rescue dozens of captured American hostages from Iranian militants before they were detected.  Light refreshments will be served during the showing.

This completely free event is one you don’t want to miss!

  1. I am so disappointed that Ms. Hellmann didn’t show up last night. I was really looking forward to her speaking on her book and the research that it entailed to write the book. I am wondering if she cancelled because only 6 people were signed up. Perhaps if it had been listed in the mailer that goes out to residents, there would have been a better response and therefore the author would have found it worth her while. I made a point to read the book in advance. In fact, I actually checked a copy out of the Downers Grove library in preparation for this event. I do hope you will schedule more authors and advertise it better.
