The zombie invasion has begun…. and Allison Hewitt is trapped. Thus begins a new foray into the world of zombie fiction. Allison Hewitt is Trapped: A Zombie Novel by Madeleine Roux starts out with our heroine Allison Hewitt trapped in a book store during a zombie outbreak. Armed with her handy laptop and axe, she begins a blog about her experiences as her and her fellow trapped survivors cope with very little food, overflowing toilets and of course a horde of hungry undead outside their doors. Other trapped survivors from around the world comment on her blog posts with their own stories of isolation, fear and struggle. I really loved the way this book was written. The whole blog concept is reflective of our own modern society where we can communicate via online with anyone and is also quite effective in drawing the reader into the characters stories. There were times as Allison is in the midst of a roaring zombie battle that I wondered how she kept a hold of her laptop, but the author explains most of this. She also infuses a love of literature in several of her characters in keeping with the book store theme. Look for the haiku blog! From survivor camps to the actions of men being, at times, worse then the zombies themselves, this is a great book!
The author also has a sneak peak at her (hopefully) next book Sadie Walker is Stranded. I look forward to reading more from her in the future. Bring on the zombies!!
